RAINEY’S REVUE: A Night in Harlem

‘When Ma Rainey come to town, Folks from anyplace, miles aroun’, From Cape Giradeau, Poplar Bluff, Flocks in to hear Ma do her stuff’

Step back into the golden age of the 1920s, 30s and 40s for an unforgettable evening celebrating the music of Ma Rainey, the legendary “Mother of the Blues.” This is more than a concert — it’s a journey to Harlem at its hottest, where blues met swing and jazz lit up the night.

Led by the renowned Richard Exall (of Glenn Miller Orchestra UK and Pasadena Roof Orchestra) on tenor sax and clarinet, alongside Musical Director Dom Barnett on piano, the show features meticulously crafted arrangements that capture the raw soul and vibrant swing of a bygone era.

The rhythm section is second to none, anchored by drum legend Sam Kelly and Parliamentary Jazz Award-winner, double-bassist, Marianne Windham.

Front and centre are the captivating vocals of Chrissie Myles (of multi-platinum band Bastille) and jazz singer, actress and narrator Emily Windham, bringing passion, storytelling and powerhouse performance to every note.

Sultry blues. Red-hot swing. Timeless songs including Hear Me Talking To You, Solid as a Rock, Skip, Skat, Doodle Do, Jump Session (Rhythm is Jumpin’), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, T’Ain’t What You Do, It’s The Way That You Do It… and many others.

Dress sharp, bring friends, and lose yourself in an electrifying night where history comes alive.
